Cole Hamels pitched a five-hitter for his first win in two weeks and the Phillies made a pair of first-inning runs hold up in a 2-1 victory over the Giants yesterday in San Francisco, extending their season-high winning streak to nine games.

Hamels took a shutout into the ninth inning before Pablo Sandoval’s two-out home run. Hamels (13-6) struck out five and faced five batters more than the minimum.

In Chicago, Carlos Zambrano homered and pitched six solid innings, and the streaking Cubs won their seventh straight game. Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips had to leave the game with a sprained right ankle.
