The shockwaves of the Patrick Ewing trade were being felt around the world.

“Obviously we are losing Patrick, and he is one of the most dominant centers to ever play,” ex-Knick teammate and U.S. Dream Team member Allan Houston told The Post last night. “I hope he’s happy personally with this.

“My job is to go out and give the Knicks the best chance of winning championships. Without Patrick, obviously you lose an inside presence offensively and defensively. I haven’t played with these guys, but hopefully we can make up for it with their skill collectively.”

Sonics guard Gary Payton, another Dream Teamer, was excited about the chance to play with the perennial All-Star.

“We got bigger,” he said. “He’s going to do a lot of things for us. He’s going to free up Vin Baker a lot. We got a true center. He is going to give us a physical advantage in the low post. He is going to bring a lot of experience from being in the league so long. He knows how to win.”

The general reaction from many Knick fans in mid-Manhattan was positive.

“They’re going to win a championship now,” said long-time Knicks fan Ronnie Ogronan. “He slowed them down.”

DeShawn Johnson, a street dispatcher for Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, felt Ewing shouldn’t be too happy about moving west.

“He has to play against Shaq, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Olajuwon,” said Johnson. “He’s in trouble.”
