Trainer John Kimmel’s 2-year-old colt Fire On Ice, who looked like the second coming of his sire, Unbridled’s Song, when he ran off and hid to win his debut at Saratoga by 10¾ lengths in 1:09.67, will miss his scheduled start in next Saturday’s Champagne Stakes after suffering a fracture of his left hind leg that will sideline him for the rest of this year.

Fire On Ice will undergo surgery Monday and recuperate at the Adena Springs farm in Florida owned by Frank Stronach, who recently bought a majority share in the colt.

“We’ll bring him back as a 3-year-old,” Kimmel said.
