Iona senior point guard Scott Machado was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year Thursday night at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. He led the Gaels (24-6, 15-3) to the top seed in the MAAC tournament, which begins tomorrow in Springfield, Mass.

“It was just focus and dedication to the game,’’ Machado told The Post. “I set a lot of goals for myself,” Machado told The Post, “little goals that turned into big goals, and bigger goals that extended to wanting to win the MAAC championship.’’

The 6-foot-1 Queens native is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year. He’s averaging a nation-leading 10.1 assists, as well as 13.1 points and five rebounds.
