Iona point guard Scott Machado was voted as the New York City area’s best college basketball player last night.

In addition to winning the 79th Haggerty Award, which is awarded to the All-Met Division 1 player of the year, the senior, who led the nation with 9.9 assists per game last season, also made the All-Met first team.

Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello and former Wagner head coach Danny Hurley were named co-coaches of the year. Masiello led the Jaspers to a 21-13 record and a berth in the CIT tournament. Hurley led Wagner to a 25-6 record before being named head coach at Rhode Island.

St. John’s forward Moe Harkless, who will be entering the NBA Draft this summer, was named Rookie of the Year.
