Jalen Hurts is going from Roll Tide to Boomer Sooner.

The quarterback, who entered the transfer portal last week, announced on the Players’ Tribune that he will play his senior season at the University of Oklahoma in 2019, a team that figures to once again be in the mix for the College Football Playoff and a possible meeting with Hurts’ former school, Alabama.

“Now I’m Bama for LIFE — and that right there will never change!” he wrote. “But now it’s also time for me to start a new chapter in my story. I’ve decided to take my talents to the University of Oklahoma, where I will continue my development as both a quarterback and as a student.”

Hurts, 20, was the starter for Alabama for two seasons before getting relegated to backup duties behind Tua Tagavailoa. He appeared in (14) games in 2018, posting 765 passing years with eight touchdowns and two interceptions to go with 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns. His Tide time comes to an end with 5,481 yards and 46 touchdowns through the air and another 1,945 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground, appearing in three national championship games and winning SEC Freshman of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honors for his 2016 campaign.

A mobile, dual-threat QB, Hurts was a heavily sought-after commodity, but landed at Oklahoma, which has had plenty of success with transfer QBs in recent seasons, including the past two Heisman winners in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

As a graduate transfer — he now owns a Bachelors Degree in public relations — Hurts is eligible to play immediately.

Oklahoma is trying to block 2018 backup quarterback Austin Kendall’s transfer to Big 12 rival West Virginia, according to ESPN. While Kendall can still transfer, doing so without an OK from Oklahoma would keep him from being eligible immediately.
