James Blake will hold an 11:45 a.m. press conference Monday at the U.S. Open, where his expected to announce his retirement, or at least that this would be his last Open.
The Yonkers native is ranked 100th in the world and will face Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic in the first round, likely on Tuesday’s card. The Harvard graduate has had memorable matches at the Open in years past – buoyed by his fan section the “J-Block” – but has never gotten past the quarterfinals and isn’t a threat this year.
Blake’s buddy, Andy Roddick, announced before last year’s tournament he was retiring.
