JASON: I MAY STAY IN JERSEY
NET NOTES
Jason Kidd insists it’s not a case of two and out with the Nets.
Kidd, universally regarded as the key to the Nets’ success, has three years, including this one, remaining on his contract ($8.4, $9.26, $10.4 million) with a chance to opt out after two. While whispers suggest he’ll bolt the Nets after next season, the All-NBA point guard maintained nothing is determined. He says he could stay in New Jersey if the Nets can get an extension done this summer.
“We don’t have to wait two years,” said Kidd, who helped the Nets yesterday post a 87-84 victory over Cleveland.
“We could maybe talk this summer about extending my contract or doing something in that respect. It’s not a guarantee that this is two years and I’m gone.
“The guys have been great. I love it here,” Kidd said. “If we can keep this team together and this team is healthy, you add a piece here that you need and this team can be fun to watch and grow with. I want to be a part of that.”
Said team president Rod Thorn, “I can’t speak for him but I think he likes his teammates and . . . the coaching staff. It’s not a decision that needs to be made for a long time and when the time comes, he’ll weigh what he sees and decides what he wants to do.”

Yesterday’s attendance again was borderline ridiculous – 5,631 – for a four-game total of 26,189, an average of 6,547.
“It’s disappointing but I think everybody here understands why,” said Byron Scott, who should see a full house Friday when the Knicks invade. “People here are like everywhere else in the country: they’re from Missouri, the Show Me state. ‘Show me you’re for real. Show me that you’re serious about being better than you’ve been.’ “

Aaron Williams, still bothered by right knee pain, went 14 minutes with two points and had two rebounds. Asked about a possible trip to the injured list, he said simply, “That’s not going to happen any time soon.”
