The hottest pitcher on the planet will be in Central Park tomorrow, making members of the media look like fools if they have the temerity to step in the box against Jennie Finch.

Roger Clemens is off to a 7-0 start, but Finch won 60 straight games in her dazzling career at Arizona. Tom Glavine has a 2.05 ERA, but Finch’s ERA was 0.00 in helping the U.S. win a gold medal at the 2001 Pan Am games. Randy Johnson has struck out 68 in 54 innings, but Finch fanned 784 in 445 innings at La Mirada (Calif.) High.

And none of those guys, thank goodness, has been asked to pose in Playboy (Finch declined) or was named to People magazine’s list of the 50 Most Beautiful People.

Here’s the best part about Finch: The hottest pitcher doesn’t think she’s so hot, nor does she care.

“I thought that was a joke,” the 6-foot blonde said of making the People list. “When they told me they were serious, I said, ‘What was I, No. 49 or 50?’ “

Finch, one of about 75 U.S. Olympic athletes who are in the metropolitan area this weekend for a pre-Olympic summit, is a hot commodity. Yesterday she appeared on the Today Show, CNN FN and was expected to swing by Letterman. Today Finch will be on Fox and Friends and then take in the Yankee game.

“I’m living a dream,” said Finch. “I thought softball could help me pay for my education and now I’m on David Letterman and hosting ‘This Week in Baseball.’ I’ve been blessed in so many ways. But my main goal is to win a gold medal.”

Finch, 23, will have a great chance to do so in Athens this summer. The USA team is the one to beat. Finch, who’s engaged to Diamondbacks rookie pitcher Casey Daigle, is in line to become America’s next great pitcher.

But no softball player has enjoyed the publicity or monetary benefits that Finch has. Mizuno signed her to a full-gear endorsement deal. She’s been featured in Glamour and Vanity Fair.

“I think we’ve come a long way in appreciating athletes for what they do on the field,” said Finch. “But I look at a Lisa Fernandez, who’s won two Olympic gold medals and she’s being asked about me. I hope in 10 years people will know me as a gold medalist because no one’s going to want to talk about my looks.”
