Lyle West, a rookie safety for the Giants, was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.

Apparently, West was taking a dietary supplement that was prescribed by a physician, not knowing that one of the ingredients in the supplement was a banned substance. West has played in six games, almost exclusively on special teams. West, a sixth-round draft pick out of San Jose State, is eligible to return to the active roster on Dec. 20, the day after the Giants face the Rams in St. Louis.
