Undefeated 2-year-old champion Uncle Mo is the 9-2 top choice among 23 3-year-olds listed for Pool 1 of this year’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which will take bets beginning Friday through Sunday.
To Honor and Serve, ranked first or second on most Derby lists, is the co-second choice at 10-1, with the less-accomplished Dialed In surprisingly held at the same price on the morning line.
The favorite among the 24 betting entries is the mutual field, “all other 3-year-olds,” at 5-2.
Uncle Mo is set to make his 3-year-old debut on Saturday, March 12, in either the Grade 2, $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby at a mile-and-a-sixteenth, or a new race announced yesterday by Gulfstream Park, the $100,000 Timely Writer overnight handicap at a mile.
Tapizar, winner of the Sham Stakes, is not among the Future Wager entries. The Steve Asmussen-trained colt, who was rank setting the pace and finished fifth as the 1-5 favorite in Saturday’s Robert B. Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita, came out of the race with a knee chip and is off the Derby trail.
