After meeting with his fellow GMs in Toronto yesterday, the Devils’ Lou Lamoriello said he doesn’t expect any changes to salary arbitration or the unbalanced schedule in the near future.

“The majority like the format we’re in,” Lamoriello said of the current division and conference schedule weighting he favors.

As to the arbitration that he saw award Scott Gomez a $5 million salary, further handcuffing him toward the cap, Lamoriello indicated the GMs were unwilling to lower the age (28 next summer, 27 thereafter) of unrestricted free agency in return for abolition.

“It’s certainly something, if we could, we’d like to see not there. But it’s not something we’ll see taken out in the near future,” Lamoriello said.
