Ten games played. Seven won. Three lost. Six to play.

A run of the table with six wins and the Jets are guaranteed the No. 1 seed among AFC playoff teams and will have home-field advantage throughout.

Five wins in the last six and the Jets are almost certain to have enough to win a second AFC East title in franchise history.

Four wins in the last six should be enough to earn a playoff berth.

Such is the state of the AFC East-leading 7-3 Jets as they relax at their respective homes during this bye-week Sunday.

Of the Jets’ six opponents, only two (the 7-2 Steelers and 7-2 Raiders) have winning records entering today’s action. The others include the 5-5 Patriots, 4-5 Bengals, 4-5 Colts and 1-8 Bills.

With those six games to play, The Post played a look-ahead word association regarding each remaining opponent with Herman Edwards.

Here goes:

New England: “That’s team has improved vastly since the last time we played them. We’ll be coming off our bye and they’re playing with a lot of confidence. It’s going to be a physical, defensive game.”

Pittsburgh: “We’re going into the lion’s den. Bill Cowher will have the scowl on. They’re playing with a lot of intensity and confidence. It’s going to be another one of those defensive games where we can’t fall into the trap of turning the ball over. Jerome Bettis is a clavicle-breaker. Kordell Stewart isn’t turning the ball over. They’re doing a good job, they really are.”

Cincinnati: “I know they’ve got a good runner [Corey Dillon] and they’ve got some good skill position players.”

Indianapolis: “[The Colts] play well at home. Their offense is missing the runner (Edgerrin James), but their offense is still their offense. The quarterback (Peyton Manning) and the receiver (Marvin Harrison) are doing pretty well. Do we have a score to settle (from an early-season loss)? Yeah, we’ll cross that road when we get there.”

Buffalo: “That’ll be a good game. They’ve improved and their coach (Gregg Williams) is doing a good job, because they fight every game.”

Oakland: “The ‘Raid-ahs,’ Al Davis, (Jon) Gruden. I’m going home. We’ll have some local Monterrey fans there, I’ll assure you that. The ‘Black Hole?’ In like it. I grew up there. It doesn’t bother me. It’s a difficult place to win, no doubt about it.”

Here’s an analysis of each remaining Jets game and a prediction:

Patriots at Jets, Dec. 2: Entering today, Patriots’ backup QB Tom Brady is the man, having won five of the eight games he’s started since Mo Lewis KO’d starter Drew Bledsoe. But Brady’s been coming back to earth a little bit of late. RB Antowain Smith, with 610 rushing yards and 6 TDs entering today’s game against the Saints, has been a good pickup for the Pats, though they’re not a huge threat running the ball. This will be a measure game for the Jets coming off the bye week. Will they keep the edge they’ve had in winning their last four and six of the last seven? The answer is yes.

Prediction: Jets 31, Patriots 20.

Jets at Steelers, Dec. 9: Bruising Steelers’ RB Jerome Bettis (918 rushing yards entering today) and the Steelers’ stingy defense are the challenges here. This could be a preview of the AFC Championship. Steelers’ QB Kordell Stewart, completing 60 percent of his passes and throwing only 4 INTs, has taken care of the ball well and made big passing plays in the clutch. Pittsburgh has five players with 4 or more sacks and three with 7 or more. The Jets’ pass protection must be at its best and Curtis Martin will have to star for the Jets to win.

Prediction: Steelers 17, Jets 16

Bengals at Jets, Dec. 16: No one on the Bengals frightens you except RB Corey Dillon, who enters today with 721 rushing yards and 5 TDs. He’s clearly Cincinnati’s best player. Bengals’ QB Jon Kitna (9 TDs, 10 INTs) doesn’t instill a lot of fear. Look for the Jets’ defense to stack up Victor Green and Co. against the run and force Kitna into mistakes.

Prediction: Jets 28, Bengals 9

Jets at Colts, Dec. 23: The Jets shouldn’t be lulled to sleep by the fact that Edgerrin James is out for the year. His replacement, Dominic Rhodes enters today with 352 rushing yards, a 4.6-yard average and 3 TDs and can be dangerous. Peyton Manning is always a threat, as is WR Marvin Harrison. Look for the Jets’ defense in this one to settle a score from their early-season loss, and swarm the Colts at home.

Prediction: Jets 24, Colts 20

Bills at Jets, Dec. 30: The fact that newcomer coach Gregg Williams has the Bills playing hard for him might not be as much a factor late in the season. Whether injury-prone Rob Johnson is back or not for the game is inconsequential. The Bills don’t have enough horses to compete. And the Jets, by this time, will be on a roll in their regular-season home finale.

Prediction: Jets 30, Bills 10

Jets at Raiders, Jan. 6: The Jets had better hope this is for the home-field advantage and not need this win to get into the playoff tournament, because Oakland has been a den or horrors for the Jets. We like their chances a lot better if they’ve already clinched a playoff berth by the time they play in Oakland. If that’s the case, there’ll be a lot of pressure off the Jets and they can let it fly with the house’s money. QB Rich Gannon is going to hit some big plays on the Jets with Hall of Fame-bound WRs Tim Brown and Jerry Rice; they just have to limit the damage. Look for this one to be one of the best regular-season games of the year.

Prediction: Jets 27, Raiders 24 in OT
