Two goals each by Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi powered a rampant Barcelona to a 6-2 thrashing of champions Real Madrid on Saturday in a spectacular Primera Liga clash at the Bernabeu Stadium.

The win meant Barca — chasing its first title in three years — extended their lead over second-place Real Madrid to seven points with four games left.

Pep Guardiola’s team will be champions if they win next Sunday at home to Villarreal and Real lose at Valencia on Saturday.

“We have taken a big step [towards the title],” Guardiola said at a news conference. “It’s a very sweet night winning at this stadium and in front of these fans.”

The defeat ended Real’s 18-game unbeaten league run of 17 wins and a draw since they lost 2-0 at Barca in December. The Madrid-based club have won the league the last two years.
