Liverpool continued its sorry start to the new season with a 2-1 loss to English Premier League upstart Blackpool today, Sky Sports reported.
Liverpool fell behind in the 29th minute on a penalty spot strike from Blackpool’s Charlie Adam. Luke Varney added another Blackpool goal before the half, sending a reeling home side into the locker room amid a chorus of boos.
The Reds bounced back with a 53rd-minute Sotirios Kyrgiakos header off a Steven Gerrard free-kick, but Liverpool were unable to find the back of the net again, and a late superb save from keeper Matthew Gilks secured Blackpool’s third Premier League victory in seven matches.
To add to Liverpool’s problems, star striker Fernando Torres lasted less than 10 minutes after appearing to injure his groin.
Liverpool now sit 18th in the Premier League Table with only six points in seven matches. The club went into Sunday’s match coming off a disappointing 0-0 draw to Dutch side FC Utrecht in UEFA Europa League play on Thursday.
