Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson said Thursday he was “delighted” that the soccer club’s board had agreed to the sale of the club to New England Sports Ventures (NESV).

A $476 million (£300 million) offer to buy the club was tabled Tuesday by NESV, a company principally owned by the Boston Red Sox owner John W Henry.

The sale of the debt-ridden English Premier League (EPL) soccer club is conditional on the deal obtaining the league’s approval, and the resolution of a dispute involving board membership and any legal challenges.

However, Hodgson said he hoped any disputes over the sale would soon be concluded.

“It’s very positive and of course I’m delighted,” he said on the soccer club’s website.

He added: “It’s been going on a long time and I know how hard the board have worked to set things up. I know it’s not easy for them because the owners have other ideas in terms of the sale of the club and what is achievable. But I was delighted to hear the news and have it confirmed that it looks like it is going to go through.”

The NESV bid was accepted by the Liverpool board despite strong opposition from current American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

The owners are reportedly reluctant to sell for a figure below their original asking price of £600 million.
