Top-ranked 3-year-old pacing colt Southwind Lynx looks to add the $297,500 Cane Pace to his impressive resume this afternoon at Freehold Raceway.

Trained by George Teague, Jr., and driven by North America’s top driver, Tim Tetrick, Southwind Lynx is the 2-1 morning-line favorite from post-position three.

“He’s [got] speed and he loves his job and that’s a heck of a combination when you put him in the right spot, which Timmy [Tetrick] has really done well,” said Teague.

Tetrick has driven the colt to three of his four victories in eight starts this year, including the $1M Art Rooney Memorial and the $1M Meadowlands Pace.

“He’s stepped up with very few starts and when it’s counted he’s been there and raced super,” said Teague.

The remainder of the field from the rail out is: Tiber Hanover (Jack Baggitt, Jr.) 15-1, Yankee Skyscaper (David Miller) 9-2, Honky Tonk Hanover (Ron Pierce) 10-1, Fresh Deck (George Brennan) 5-2, Ghees House (Yannick Gingras) 12-1, Artzina (John Campbell) 6-1 and Always A Virgin (Brian Sears) 5-2.

The 53rd edition of the Cane Pace, the first jewel in the pacing triple crown, is race 14 on today’s 15-race holiday card that gets underway at 12:30 p.m.
