Chris “Mad Dog” Russo talks about his new three-year deal with SiriusXM, his relationship with Mike Francesa and more with The Post’s Justin Terranova.

Q: How did the negotiations go?

A: I just felt if they were going to be fair — and they certainly were — it was going to be a no-brainer. I know people are going to bring up the “Mike and the Mad Dog” thing — I understand that — I didn’t run it by Mike or ask him, “What do you think, you and I?” This was just an independent decision that I had to make based on the fact that Sirius was good to me.

Q: This was easier than the last contract four years ago?

A: I knew they were going to step back a little bit and I didn’t want to do as many hours … I was a little worn out (from five-hour shows) at that time, and there was a “Did I make the right decision leaving WFAN?” at that time.

Q: Did you consider leaving at that time?

A: I didn’t look around for demand this time, I probably did four years ago. Mike was settled in, there was a scenario of, “Where was I going to go?” When you do these deals you have to have somebody that wants you. You have to be in demand. Sometimes you hit it right, and sometimes you don’t. I knew Mike wasn’t going to go anywhere at WFAN, I knew they weren’t going to pay the both of us. It was smart to settle in, supplement it with MLB Network — because they wanted me — and figure out a way to do both shows.

Q: Has your relationship with Francesa improved since the Radio City show in March?

A: Much closer. I’ve texted Mike a lot, he reached out when I got hit in the head with the golf ball and we talked about his horse that ran at Saratoga. That show secured the bond. We hadn’t talked in a long time and I think we both thought we did as well as we could under the circumstances. I feel the relationship with Mike and I now is very, very good.

Q: You broke the news on Howard Stern’s show. How has your relationship with him gone through the years?

A: I love the guy. Now we don’t talk a lot, we’ll see each other in the halls once in a great while. I know he finds me entertaining and likes me while I am in there, but I don’t know deep down what Howard thinks of me. And I love doing it because you can be yourself. You get in hot water with your wife, your friends for things you say, but you can’t worry about it.
