Manchester United denied fresh reports today that it was holding talks with a potential buyer and reiterated that the club is not for sale.
It was claimed that United’s American owners _ the Glazer family that also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers _ was in discussions over a possible $2.4 billion (£1.5 billion) deal to sell the club to Qatar Holding.
The reports said the Glazers opened talks with the group but that the deal failed to materialize because the owners were seeking $3.2 billion (£2 billion) — but a United spokesperson said that “there has been no approach of any kind to buy the club, and one wouldn’t be welcome anyway because it is not for sale.”
Qatar Holding, which bought London department store Harrods last year, is an indirect subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority and is run by Sheik Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al Thani, prime minister of Qatar.
