HARRISON, N.J. — Manchester United superstar striker Javier Hernandez, who is in the US for the Red Devils’ preseason tour, spent an evening in the hospital after suffering a mild concussion, the Premier League club confirmed Wednesday.

Hernandez suffered the injury during a training session at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., Tuesday, where United will participate in a friendly against the MLS All-Stars Wednesday night.

“[Hernandez] sustained a mild concussion during training last night,” a team spokesperson told the club’s official website. “We have taken all the necessary precautions, which included an overnight stay in hospital.”

It is not immediately known when the in-form Mexican forward will be released. Even prior to news of his injury, Hernandez was not expected to participate in Wednesday’s friendly.

The 23-year-old had a breakthrough season for the Premier League champions during the 2010-11 campaign, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.
