It may take a genius to turn around the Eagles’ struggling defense. Or in this case, a Man-Genius.

ESPN reported that the Eagles recently tried to hire Eric Mangini as a defensive consultant, but the former Jets and Browns coach turned down the offer.

Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo has come under fire for the unit’s poor play during their 1-4 start. It is Castillo’s first year in the position after spending the past 12 seasons as offensive line coach.

After being fired by the Browns after two seasons, Mangini is working as an analyst for ESPN.
