Soccer legend Diego Maradona said Friday he would do anything to return as Argentina coach.

“I’d give my life to be the national team coach,” Maradona told FOX Sports in an interview screened in Argentina.

“I’m dying to be with the team. I am thirsty for revenge.”

Maradona was sacked from the post two months ago following Argentina’s 4-0 defeat to Germany in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The 1986 World Cup winner later claimed he had been lied to by Argentine Football Association president Julio Grondona and betrayed by team manager Carlos Bilardo.

He blamed the pair for plotting his downfall. Grondona and Bilardo dismissed the accusations.

Uruguayan Sergio Batista has been serving as the interim Argentina coach and a full-time replacement is expected to be named within months.

AFA president has said Batista would be very likely to be given the full-time job, but Maradona said he was not the right man for the role.

“No one knows who Batista is, not even in Uruguay,” Maradona said.
