Even FIFA is getting tired of Argentina legend Diego Maradona’s antics.

The soccer governing body hit back at its own ambassador Wednesday after he called England’s Round of 16 win over Colombia a “monumental robbery.” Maradona accused American referee Mark Geiger of bias in favor of England.

“Following comments made by Diego Armando Maradona … FIFA strongly rebukes the criticism of the performance of the match officials which it considers to have been positive in a tough and highly emotional match,” FIFA said in a statement. “Furthermore, it also considers the additional comments and insinuations made as being entirely inappropriate and completely unfounded.”

Maradona joined Colombia captain Radamel Falcao in criticizing Geiger’s decision to award a penalty to Harry Kane early in the second half.

“The penalty was not a penalty — it was a foul by [Harry] Kane,” Maradona told Venezuelan TV station Telesur and translated by ESPN. “Why didn’t he use VAR? I’m reeling because when I spoke to [FIFA president Gianni] Infantino the first time, everything had changed at FIFA: The thieves had left, the fixes, everything.

“And today I saw a monumental robbery on the pitch. I apologize to the Colombian people, but the players are not to blame as we don’t choose the referees. The referees are chosen by [Pierluigi] Collina, who was appointed by Infantino to change the new FIFA from thieves and fixers, and today we saw the opposite — an old and fixed FIFA.

“Here’s a gentleman who decides, a referee who, if you Google him, shouldn’t be given a match of this magnitude. … Geiger, an American, what a coincidence,” he added later on.

Maradona is at the World Cup as a part of FIFA’s “Legends” program and had been seen wearing a yellow Colombia jersey before the game.

He’s been a frequent subject of controversy at this year’s World Cup. He was filmed flashing his middle fingers and had to be treated by paramedics after Argentina’s group stage match victory over Nigeria. Argentina would lose 4-3 in the Round of 16 to France.

Maradona also apologized on Facebook for making a racist gesture toward an Asian fan at the World Cup and smoking cigars inside a stadium, which is prohibited.
