Pop singer Marc Anthony was a visitor yesterday at Giants practice, which was not incredibly unusual, as celebrities on occasion pop in to get a look-see. But it sure took everyone by surprise when Jim Fassel explained Anthony’s appearance by saying, “I’m his godfather.”

It seems Fassel and Anthony met a year ago at the Super Bowl in New Orleans. A friendship ensued. Anthony recently converted to Catholicism and asked Fassel to be his godfather. Fassel accepted.

“I said I’d be honored to do it,” Fassel said. “He’s a good guy and I love hearing him sing. And he’s a Giants fan.”
