For ESPN’s Bill Laimbeer to be successful as an NBA studio analyst, he needs to be more like he was as a player when he was hated throughout the league.

Laimbeer’s comments must have more emotion. What made him a famous enough name to land at ESPN was his dirty image with the Pistons. While Laimbeer occasionally will come on strong, too often his analyses are more Blah Boy than Bad Boy.

TNT’s Steve Kerr is very easy to listen to on games. Having just retired with five rings, his comments are usually relevant, and he owns enough confidence to mix in some levity with the experienced Marv Albert and Mike Fratello.

The Matchup’s advice to Laimbeer is not to take cheap shots, but, if it is in you, show some more personality. Kerr shouldn’t change. Hence, he owns something neither Michael Jordan nor Tim Duncan could deliver to him, a Matchup ring.
