ESPN executives continue to make the mistake of thinking viewers want their sports with a side of celebrities.

This year, ESPN’s selection show, Bracketology 101 (7 p.m., Sunday) will continue the network’s recent pattern of straying toward gimmicks with celebrities such as Ben Affleck, Alex Rodriguez and Justin Timberlake scheduled. The thought is out of sync.

Meanwhile, CBS has created a tilted playing field for its 6 p.m. selection show, hosted by Jim Nantz. CBS will unveil the brackets before ESPN does on its 6 p.m. SportsCenter thanks to the $6 billion its paying the NCAA through 2013.

CBS’ production will be solid. Its show will analyze the Blue Devils without analysis from Daredevil. Two thumbs up for CBS.

CBS can cut the nets and cue “One Shining Moment,” because it owns this Matchup.
