Yankee YES Network play-by-player Michael Kay is excellent at leading his analysts in the right direction, but he tends to be too wordy on his game calls, as he still hasn’t fully transitioned from radio to TV. Meanwhile, Met-casters Ted Robinson and Dave OBrien are polished play-byplayers who give viewers most everything they need.

On both sides, the analysts should cut down on talking about themselves and focus more on the games. While Jim Kaat is the best of the bunch, Paul ONeill and Keith Hernandez both could be better than Kaat, but neither seems eager to really apply himself. Ken Singleton is solid, and David Justice has a lot of potential, whereas Tom Seaver needs to do more homework.

In the end, this Subway Matchup comes down to each side’s weakest link – Fran Healy vs. Bobby Murcer. Though neither offers much useful analysis, the Yankees own the advantage because at least Murcer provides some sentimental value. Thus, the Yanks take the matchup.
