Dear execs:
Everything that is wrong withESPN can be summed up by nine words in a news release: “Entertainer Nick Lachey To Serve As College GameDay Contributor.”
Ughhh! Listen, there is a lot right with ESPN, and one of those things is College GameDay. Chris Fowler is tremendous. The nuts-and-bolts Kirk Herbstreit and zany Lee Corso balance each other brilliantly.
But nobody wants to see Lachey on GameDay, except maybe Jessica Simpson. Lachey might be a big sports fan (the release says that he is), but, let’s face it, his biggest qualification is his fame.
Lachey and Simpson had a TV show on MTV, so you guys hopethat he can pull some audience from there. But you know what this does?
It makes people like the Memo Staff – real sports fans – feel as if GameDay just became a little less important on Saturday, a little less of a must-watch. Leave this celebrity silliness to shows nobody watches, like ESPN Hollywood.
