Dear Mike & Chris,

Hours before Barry Bonds’ news conference Tuesday, you offered some vintage gems when you attacked – er, interviewed – ESPN reporter Pedro Gomez on WFAN.

First, Chris, after saying Jason Giambi apologized, you asked, “Bonds isn’t even going to give you that today, right?” Gomez said, “We’ll see.” Only Kreskin could precisely predict Bonds’ words.

Then, Mike, you slammed Chris Berman, Rick Sutcliffe and Joe Morgan for protecting Bonds, and you wanted Gomez to respond. What was Gomez supposed to say – “Yeah, my co-workers regularly take a dive”?

Later, Mike, you had an ESP-moment, pompously lecturing Gomez that, “You can take it to the bank [Bonds] is not going to broach the [steroids] subject.” Bonds, of course, did broach the subject.

Mostly, you guys blasted Gomez – your guest! – for declining to offer an opinion on whether Bonds did steroids. Calmly, Gomez – as is his right – declined, because he is reporting on the situation. Guys, next time, show a little respect. Will you please?
