FOX analyst Tim McCarver still thinks the Wilpons should sell the Mets.
Wednesday, McCarver did not waver from the comments he made before the season.
“It was an answer to a question … I said they should sell the team and I stand by my answer to that question,” McCarver told The Post on Tuesday. “And the team I think, all things considered, is playing very well under the circumstances.”
McCarver did apologize to SNY analyst Ron Darling for saying it would be difficult for the Mets’ booth to broadcast with ownership issues so prevalent. And though the Mets sit in last place in the NL East with a 16-20 record, McCarver is impressed with the jobs new GM Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins have done.
“After a few weeks of the season GM Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins deserve very high grades,” McCarver said. “Because just imagine with that situation … it’s tough enough to run a major-league team without all that maelstrom, vortex going on around you. Under the circumstances to take a team with pretty good talent and have them respectable at this point in time means they deserve a lot of credit.”
The cash-strapped Wilpons are selling a minority share of the Mets, but have maintained they will not give away controlling interest.
