It’s more cringe-worthy than malicious, but Mike Francesa should probably choose a different dismissal from his arsenal next time.
The WFAN gasbag legend uttered the same, outdated phrase that got a Thunder broadcaster suspended and then let go in April during a back-and-forth Monday with a caller who argued Tom Brady has not had the surrounding weapons Joe Montana had.
“You are out of your cotton-pickin’ mind,” Francesa said, in audio shared by @BackAftaThis.
The phrase, long in the vernacular, is seen as racially insensitive. Oklahoma City voice Brian Davis proclaimed Russell Westbrook was “out of his cotton-pickin'” mind in last year’s playoffs and was then suspended a game, with his contract not being renewed after the season.
It will be interesting to see if Francesa pleads ignorance or pleads PC police, if he responds at all.
