The pipeline from the CHSAA to the College of Saint Rose continues.
Following in the footsteps of former Archbishop Molloy teammate Jin Hong, the Christ the King duo of Dominykas Milka and Kareem Thomas and Iona Prep’s Andre Pope, Chris Dorgler has verbally committed to the Northeast-10 school.
The 6-foot-3 senior swingman also received offers from Queens College and Caldwell College and drew interest from Assumption and Adelphi, but Dorgler said he felt comfortable at Saint Rose.
“I really liked the coaches, I liked the guys, I like how Dom is there so he’ll be a good big man and we’ll have a good team for a couple of years,” Dorgler said.
Legendary Molloy coach Jack Curran said he thinks Saint Rose is a perfect fit for the heady Dorgler.
“I think he’s going to do fine in college because he never lets up,” he said. “He’s in perpetual motion on the court. He’s all over the ball, he hustles. If he makes his layups, he’ll be a fine player.”
In addition to the already familiar faces from the CHSAA, Dorgler said he liked the fact that Saint Rose coach Brian Beaury is in his 24th year at the helm, that Albany is a college town and that the Golden Knights are in the upper echelon of a tough Division II conference. In fact, Saint Rose was picked to finish fourth in a preseason coaches poll.
Dorgler, who will likely play as a shooting guard or small forward at Saint Rose, also liked making the decision before the start of his senior season at Molloy.
“I’m probably playing out of position at Molloy again this year,” said Dorgler, who plays in the paint because of the Stanners lack of size. “I think I would have gotten looks from other schools, but I really liked it so I just decided to go with my gut and do what felt right. Now I can just go out and enjoy my senior season.”
