Though Fox Sports expects the return of NASCAR to look the same as always, its approach on Sunday will be safety first.
With no fans at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway for The Real Heroes 400, Fox plans to use drones more, which could result in unique shots of the cars. The overall goal is to have less people on site, which the network will.
“That is what we’ve had to do with NASCAR,” Fox Sports executive vice president Brad Zager said. “Not rest on what we have done in the past, but rethink it, knowing the position we are in today with the single most important thing being everyone’s health and safety. There is nothing that comes close to the importance of the safety of everyone producing any of our events.”
The network’s announcers — Mike Joy, Jeff Gordon and Larry McReynolds — will be located in a Charlotte, N.C., studio, as they have been for the simulated races Fox has broadcast in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, pit reporter Regan Smith will be on site at the race.
“From the viewers’ perspective, we feel 100 percent confident that the plan we have will give viewers what they are used to when they watch Fox NASCAR,” Zager said.
