SUNRISE, Fla. – Martin Brodeur is signed as a Devil through age 40.

“It was supposed to be [yesterday] or [today], but somebody jumped the gun,” Brodeur, now 33, said of the deal reported pending in yesterday’s Post.

“I’m really happy, really excited. It’s a great opportunity to maybe end my career [with New Jersey].”

The new six-year contract, which takes effect next season, replaces the club option the Devils had for next season at some $6 million, after which Brodeur could have been an unrestricted free agent.

Brodeur will earn $5.2 million per season, and has a no-trade clause that will keep him in New Jersey. As he did with his previous two contracts, Brodeur settled for less than arguable market value to stay with the Devils.

“I always did things a certain way because I really appreciate what was going on here,” Brodeur said.
