Contrary to published reports, a major league source said the Mets probably won’t receive a fine for their distracting managerial pursuit during the World Series.

Mets owner Fred Wilpon spoke with Bud Selig for an hour Sunday to inform the very agitated commissioner that the club had nothing to do with media leaks of Art Howe’s hiring last Wednesday night.

Selig seemed to be reconsidering the fine over the weekend. One report had the Mets in line for a $50,000 fine.
