SOUTH BEND, Ind.— The Notre Dame radio network suspended former Irish running back and commentator Allen Pinkett without pay for two more games after his comments last week that teams need bad guys to give them an edge.
Pinkett had already been pulled off last Saturday’s season opener against Navy in Ireland. He will now miss the games against Purdue and Michigan State.
Pinkett, who led Notre Dame in rushing from 1983-85, said during the interview with WSCR-AM of Chicago: “I’ve always felt like, to have a successful team, you have to have a few bad citizens on the team.” He pointed to Ohio State as an example.
Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick called Pinkett’s comments “nonsense.” Pinkett has apologized.
