ABSTRACT:
The introduction of the 5-foot, 8-inch man, who used to wear No. 42, prompted the more than 200 juniors and sniors in the Glen Rock (NJ) High School Auditorium to salute.
“J-E-T-S. Jets! Jets! Jets!”
Wearing a green turtleneck and green khakis, Bruce Harper smiled.
“I know him because the guy who does the Jets chants has his jersey on,” senior Kevin Mullholland said.
“Now, the fans know me because of (Eddie Anzalone),” said the 43-year-old Harper, who made it a point to go into the stands last season and cheer with Anzalone for one game.”After all these years, the guy is still wearing my jersey.”
At the end of the day at Glen Rock, the 5-8 man, who made the impossible dream – excelling in the NFL – possible, yanked on his Jets cap to leave. He is living vicariously – and living well.
