Jamie Moyer pitched a seven-hitter and Jayson Werth homered to help the Phillies break out of their offensive slump with a 6-2 win over the Padres last night in Philadelphia.
Ryan Howard went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Chase Utley also drove in a run for the Phillies, who won their second straight. The Phillies had been mired in a team batting slump, with its prolific offense scoring 29 runs over the last 15 games. They went 5-10 in those games.
Moyer (6-5), who moved into a tie for 38th all-time with 264 career wins, settled down after surrendering two runs on five hits in the second inning. He allowed just two hits the rest of the way. It was the 47-year-old left-hander’s second complete game this season.

In Houston, rookie Tyler Colvin hit a two-run home run, Aramis Ramirez homered and had two RBIs and the Cubs snapped a four-game losing streak
Pirates 6, Giants 3
In Pittsburgh, Andrew McCutchen had four hits, including a homer, and scored three runs to lead the Pirates.

Red Sox 8, Orioles 2
In Baltimore, Kevin Youkilis homered in the seventh inning to break open a scoreless game, and the Red Sox extended the Orioles’ losing streak to 10 games. Jon Lester (7-2) gave up four hits and three walks in 6 1/3 innings to win his seventh straight decision.

In Arlington, Texas, Tommy Hunter pitched a five-hitter in his season debut, Josh Hamilton homered and the Rangers beat the Rays. Hunter retired 14 of the last 16 batters he faced.
Twins 4, A’s 3
In Oakland, Matt Tolbert hit a tiebreaking two-out single in the ninth inning to drive in J.J. Hardy and the Twins made it hold up.
Angels 11, Mariners 2
In Seattle, Torii Hunter had three hits, three RBIs and keyed a decisive six-run sixth inning to lead the surging Angels to their ninth win in 11 games.
Tigers 4, Royals 2
In Kansas City, Justin Verlander (6-4) pitched seven strong innings and Miguel Cabrera hit his 17th home run of the season to lead the Tigers.
Indians 3, White Sox 1
In Chicago, Austin Kearns had an RBI single in the fourth inning, and Mitch Talbot pitched seven strong innings to help the Indians beat the White Sox.
