Promoter Joe DeGuardia will pit two of his best heavyweight prospects against each other tonight when Kevin Johnson, of Asbury Park, and Devin Vargas, of Toledo, Ohio, meet in a battle of unbeatens at Harrah’s in Atlantic City.

Vargas (17-0, 7 KOs) is a late replacement for Monte Barrett, who was originally scheduled to face Johnson (21-0-1, 8 KOs).

“Vargas has been telling me for years that he can beat Kevin Johnson,” DeGuardia said. “I have to give him the opportunity.”

The fight will be seen on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. In the co-feature, Jorge Teron (22-1-1, 15 KOs), of The Bronx, will attempt to avenge his only loss against Aldo Valtierra (25-10, 13 KOs), of Mexico, in a 10-round lightweight fight.
