Red Sox DH David Ortiz made his first comments since initially addressing a report that he tested positive for performance enhancers in 2003.

Speaking to reporters for approximately one minute at Yankee Stadium today, Ortiz said of his current situation: “I’m not comfortable with it, but I can handle it.”

Ortiz met with Major League Baseball Players Association officials, and the union plans a press conference about Ortiz on Saturday at the Stadium. A week ago today, the New York Times revealed that Ortiz and Ramirez were among the 104 players who tested positive in 2003.

“Based on the way I lived my life I’m surprised to learn I tested positive,” Ortiz said then. “I will find out what I tested positive for. … Based on whatever I learn, I will share this information with the club and the public. You know me — I will not hide and I will not make excuses.”

The Red Sox, 8-0 against the Yankees this season but trailing them in the AL East, open a four-game series at the Stadium tonight.
