Rest and rehab weren’t enough to get Greg Jennings back on the field.

The Packers’ No. 1 receiver will have surgery Tuesday to repair a torn abdominal muscle that has kept him out for most of the season. He would not put a timetable on his return, but said recovery from the 20- to 25-minute outpatient procedure is not season-ending.

“Honestly, I’m over being bummed about it. That took place three, four weeks ago,” Jennings said yesterday. “It is what it is. I need to take care of it to 100 percent, and that’s the process I’m taking.”

The two-time Pro Bowler initially was hurt in the closing minutes of the Sept. 9 opener against San Francisco. He sat out the next week’s game against Chicago, and returned to play at Seattle on Sept. 24. But he aggravated the injury against New Orleans, and came out of the Sept. 30 game in the second quarter after a 9-yard touchdown catch, his first of the season.

REDSKINS: Linebacker London Fletcher was being evaluated by a neurologist for a possible head injury and missed practice for a second consecutive day, putting his 15-year consecutive-games streak in doubt.

Coach Mike Shanahan said Fletcher was checked for about six hours by a doctor for a “balance issue.” Shanahan listed the 37-year-old Fletcher as not practicing because of head and hamstring problems.

In other Redskins news, receiver Pierre Garcon said he has a torn ligament on the bottom of his right foot and he’s hoping to avoid surgery.

Garcon described the injury that has sidelined him for four of Washington’s past six games as a “plantar plate tear” near his second toe. The plantar plate is a ligament that holds a toe in its joint.

Garcon said “surgery is an option” that probably would end his season, adding: “But we don’t really want to think about that at all.”

BRONCOS: Cornerback Tracy Porter missed practice to see a doctor about symptoms he continues to experience following a seizure he suffered in August.

JAGUARS: Jacksonville placed linebacker Daryl Smith on injured reserve with a designation to return later this season.

Smith has not played because of a groin injury sustained early in training camp.

Smith is eligible to return to practice after six weeks and can be activated after eight weeks.

TITANS:
Michael Roos has started every single game for Tennessee since being drafted in the second round back in 2005, a streak now in peril of ending at 119 straight.

Hey, even NFL players have to heal after emergency appendectomies.

The left tackle played through discomfort in last week’s 35-34 win at Buffalo. He returned home and couldn’t sleep before finally heading to the hospital at 4 a.m. Monday where he met a team doctor to have his appendix removed.

Roos says the streak is a source of pride, but he will have to see how he feels day by day before the Titans (3-4) play the Colts (3-3) on Sunday.
