MET NOTES

Pedro Martinez, tentatively scheduled to return from the disabled list Friday night in Atlanta, joked that he threw a no-hitter yesterday.

Martinez, out with a hip ailment and the aftereffects of food poisoning, tossed an 80-pitch simulated game immediately following the Mets’ 4-3 victory over the Astros. Simulated games take place in the bullpen with someone standing in the batter’s box just for show.

“Everything was fine,” said Martinez, who used all his pitches. “It is always going to depend on how I feel when I wake up [today].

“I spotted the fastball really well and I got a little pop on it.”

The Mets ace hasn’t pitched since June 28 in Boston, when he was shelled. There was talk of him pitching Wednesday, but he won’t be ready.
