The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Pedro Martinez threw a 56-pitch bullpen session yesterday and wants to make one more minor-league start before joining the Phillies.

“I hope that if everything goes well, that will be my last step” before hitting the majors again, Martinez told Marcus Hayes. “I’m looking forward to making the next one, on Friday, the last one.”

The former Mets right-hander signed with the Phillies earlier this month and made a start for Single-A Clearwater that was shortened by rain.

Martinez is scheduled to start for Triple-A Lehigh Valley next, then return to the majors. “I was fluid. Free. Easy. No soreness at all. I couldn’t have asked for a better day,” Martinez said. “To be honest, I wish [Friday] was today, to get it out of the way. And I could get going with my big-league career.”

The Phillies today added starter Cliff Lee in a trade with the Indians.
