PIGSKIN PROFIT
FLORIDA STATE at MIAMI Ch. 7
Fri, 8 p.m. Line: Miami -2.
Angle: Game was postponed from Monday because of Hurricane Frances. Now Hurricane Ivan is threatening. The ‘Canes are storm-shocked. But so is FSU. Coach Bobby Bowden lost a grandson and former son-in-law in a fatal car crash Sunday. ‘Noles will be emotional. Maybe too emotional. This is the first meeting between the two Florida powers as ACC members.
Eyes on: Florida State WR Craphonso Thorpe; Miami CB Antrel Rolle.
PREDICTION: FSU 24, Miami 20.
MICHIGAN at NOTRE DAME Ch. 4
Sat, 3:30 Line: Michigan -131/2.
Angle: After the 38-0 pounding Michigan put on ND last year, and the Irish’s 20-17 loss at BYU last week, the line could have been 171/2. Michigan again will start true freshman QB Chad Henne at QB over more heralded Matt Gutierrez. Look for Irish to try to pluck Henne with a lot of different looks and blitzes. Irish should have RB Ryan Grant back.
Eyes on: Michigan WR Braylon Edwards; ND DE Justin Tuck.
PREDICTION: Michigan 23, Notre Dame 21.
GEORGIA at SOUTH CAROLINA ESPN
5:30 p.m. Line: Georgia -8.
Angle: Let me get this straight: ‘Dawgs gave up 28 points last week to Division I-AA Georgia Southern and they’re playing an SEC road game against a quality coach. The line is 8?! Lou Holtz already has begun calling Georgia the greatest team in the history of college football. Georgia starts a freshman RB named Herschel, uh, sorry, Danny Ware.
Eyes on: Georgia DE David Pollack; South Carolina LT Jabari Levey.
PREDICTION: South Carolina 21, Georgia 20.
PENN ST. at BOSTON COLLEGE Ch. 7
8 p.m. Line: Penn State -21/2.
Angle: Last year Eagles beat the heck out of the Nittany Lions 27-14 in the second game of the season and obliterated Penn State’s confidence. JoePa has said he’s regained some focus he lost last season. We’ll see. Last week QB Zack Mills became the first Penn State player in the 39-year Paterno era to run, catch and throw for a TD. But the game will be won up front, particularly BC’s offensive line against Penn State’s D- line.
Eyes on: Penn State OLB Derek Wake; BC DE Mathias Kiwanuka.
PREDICTION: Penn State 27, Boston College 14.
TEXAS at ARKANSAS ESPN
8:45 p.m. Line: Texas -11.
Angle: Texas by 11? I guarantee you that is plastered all over Fayetteville. This once great rivalry was renewed last year. Hogs thumped Longhorns 38-28 in Austin. Texas had more talent and revenge factor working for it, but as they say in Arkansas, ‘Ooh, Pig Sooey!’ Crowd will be hog- wired.
Eyes on: Texas RB Cedric Benson; Arkansas LB Clarke Moore.
PREDICTION: Texas 31, Arkansas 24.
