NAVY vs. NOTRE DAMENoon Ch. 2

Line: ND -6½.

Angle: Irish have won the last 40, yes, against Navy. Middies (5-0) are off to their best start since 1979, and ND QB Brady Quinn is suffering from a slight concussion. Law of averages says Navy has to get it done one of these times. But this isn’t it. Irish are solid and Navy is completely overmatched on the line, especially against ND’s ground game.

Eyes on: Navy FB Kyle Eckel; ND DE Justin Tuck.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame 24, Navy 14.

ARIZONA STATE at USC3:30 Ch. 7

Line:USC -10½.

Angle: Anyone who watched Cal QB Aaron Rodgers complete 29 of his first 31 passes against USC’s suspect secondary must be salivating over the points. Undefeated Sun Devils have a quality senior quarterback in Andrew Walter and they had an extra week to prepare. Trojans used up a lot of physical and emotional energy to hold off Bears.

Eyes on: ASU WR Derek Hagan; USC RB Reggie “The President” Bush.

PREDICTION: ASU 31, USC 30.

WISCONSIN at PURDUE5:30 ESPN2

Line: Purdue -6½.

Angle: And you thought the Big Ten was the exclusive domain of Wolverines and Buckeyes. Winner of this game moves into at least a share of first place. If opposites attract, this should be a beauty. Purdue does it by air; Wisconsin goes ground. If the weather is bad, make a game-time decision and take the Badgers with a big number because it will hurt Purdue more.

Eyes on: Wisconsin RB Anthony Davis; Purdue QB Kyle Orton.

PREDICTION: Purdue 31, Wisconsin 27.

CALIFORNIA at UCLA7:00 TBS

Line: Cal -14½.

Angle: Bears did everything right except win last week. They dominated Trojans in every phase and are enraged not to have won. Loss of WR Chase Lyman (knee) will hurt, but RB J.J. Arrington is the real deal and Cal’s defense held Matt Leinhart & Co. to 205 total yards. Bruins are the least impressive 4-1 team in the nation. The four wins came against teams with a combined record of 6-15.

Eyes on: Cal QB Aaron Rodgers; UCLA RB Maurice Drew.

PREDICTION: Cal 38, UCLA 17.

VIRGINIA at FLORIDA STATE7:45 ESPN

Line: FSU -3.

Angle: We’ve been on the Virginia bandwagon since before the season started, but Cavs did not look good in 30-10 win over Clemson. Good news is that that game was played on a Thursday night, giving superb coach Al Groh a couple of extra days. FSU got the wakeup call it needed last week when it struggled to win at Syracuse. Big question mark is the ‘Noles’ inconsistency at QB.

Eyes on: Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks; FSU LB Sam McGrew.

PREDICTION: FSU 20, Virginia 14.

Last week: 4-1; Overall: 15-8-2
