While they couldn’t lure their first-round draftee, goalie Al Montoya, away from college, the Rangers yesterday did manage to sign up his University of Michigan teammate, Dwight Helminen.

The Rangers acquired the 2002 eighth-round Oiler draftee’s rights in March in the Petr Nedved deal.
