VALENCIA, Spain — Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho was firmly focused Saturday on his team’s trip to Valencia after dismissing Italian media reports linking him with a return to Inter Milan.
Mourinho left Inter last summer to take charge in Madrid, and he lifted his first trophy with the Spaniards on Wednesday following a Copa del Rey triumph over fierce rival Barcelona.
While Real looks set to miss out on the Primera Liga title, it is in contention in the UEFA Champions League, and Mourinho is confident that his team will improve next term.
Reports nevertheless recently surfaced of a move back to Inter, with the Italian press claiming that Mourinho registered his children at a Milan school for next year.
The Portuguese tactician said he was focused solely on the challenge ahead of him at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“What they’re saying each day in Italy, that I will once again be coach of Inter next season, is false, completely false,” said Mourinho. “I am more and more content and happy at Real Madrid. Normally, my teams are always better the second season than the first. Because of that, I want to be here next season, with the belief that Real Madrid will be better.”
