MADRID — Real Madrid was Wednesday preparing Cristiano Ronaldo to return to full fitness to face Tottenham in the first leg of the teams’ UEFA Champions League quarter-final next month.

Ronaldo suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over city rival Atletico Madrid in La Liga last Saturday and was expected to be out for two to three weeks. The world’s most expensive soccer player will certainly miss Portugal’s two friendlies against Chile and Finland.

But Jose Mourinho told Spanish media he believed his star man would be back to face Spurs at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 5.

“I think he will be able to play against Tottenham. We don’t have a game this weekend, and that will allow him to recover,” the Madrid boss said. “I don’t think he can play against Sporting Gijon [in the league]. If he can, I won’t risk it because I want him fit for the Champions League match. We hope he is back to his top level against Tottenham.”

Ronaldo said he was never fully fit in the team’s Champions League second leg against Lyon or for the game against Atletico and wanted to get back to his best.

“I am physically restricted, and I want to recover 100 percent,” he said. “I don’t want to play in a restricted way like I did against Lyon and Atletico Madrid. I would have liked to have played the two friendlies with Portugal, but it is not possible.”Read more: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11835_6830905,00.html
