The long-awaited, oft-delayed opening of Red Bull Arena has been delayed again. This time the estimated opening has been pushed back from late this summer to the opening of next season. But truth be told, I probably don’t know a single Metro fan that will be shocked by this.
And honestly, most of you shouldn’t be gutted by it. Oh, sure, a little disappointed. I know how much most of you cats are looking forward to the opening, being able to walk the streets of Harrison rocking your Red Bull gear on gameday. But I’d rather have this done right than open up some half-done piece of garbage, lookin’ like an incomplete Lego set. Get it done, but get it done right.
This is part of a letter from the front office
Dear Red Bulls Member,
Today I am writing to inform you that due to a number of obstacles throughout 2008 that have led to delays, Red Bull Arena will not be completed until after the 2009 season. I was hopeful that a mild winter might allow us to catch up on some of the time lost, but that simply has not happened. We remain committed to constructing the best soccer stadium in North America. Rushing the completion date jeopardizes that goal.
