Red Bulls coach Hans Backe will lead the MLS squad against Manchester United in the league’s All-Star game next month.

Backe was picked because he wouldn’t miss any training time with his team with Red Bull Arena host for the match.

The 59-year-old was a finalist for 2010 coach of the year honors after the Red Bulls matched the best one-season improvement in MLS history, going from last place in 2009 to first in the Eastern Conference.

The All-Star game is July 27 in Harrison.
